The Indian Maritime University, came into being through an Act of Parliament (Act 22) on 14th November 2008 as a Central University and is poised to play a key role in the development of trained human resource for the maritime sector. 14th November is celebrated as 'IMU Day' every year.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. It has tried to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by offering high-quality teaching through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
The University began by offering two academic programmes in 1987, i.e., Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education, with a strength of 4,528 students.
The erstwhile Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering, Murthal Haryana Government Institute was upgraded to Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science & Technology, Murthal through an act of legislation dated 30.10.2006 issued vide Haryana Govt. notification No. Leg./33-2006 dated 6.11.2006.The University is located on the National Highway No. 1(G.T. Road) 48 Km. from ISBT, New Delhi towards Chandigarh. The location of university falls within one of the fastest growing industrial belt of Haryana.
